I love when my Republican friends get outraged over being identified as a racist. Well, whether they are or aren’t, I’ve never seen any of them stand up for black rights. For years now they’ve let Tea Partiers perpetuate the racist image. And now Confederate-flag waving, Anti-Semite T-shirt wearing Trump Republicans have put the nail in that coffin.
Trump has never spoken up in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Mostly he’s stayed silent. Condemned it when the summer 2020 BLM marches devolved into riots.
Trump’s stance was: “Ah ha! See? They’re all savages. Didn’t I tell you?”
“But he’s done more for black people than any other president!” his supporters argue.
Oh yeah? What, specifically?
You know the first thing they often tell me? Prison reform.
What? Really? That’s sad.
Yet, if you ask what all he’s done for them, a white person, the first thing they’ll often say is cut their taxes.
Don’t black people pay taxes too?
Oh wait. No, because they don’t work. They’re all on welfare. That’s what most Republicans believe.
And why do they think that? Because they’re racists. They can’t see it though.
No one wants to think bad of themselves, but the staunchest Trump Republicans are a little more willing to own what they really are. Well, in some cases, a lot.
Like any of the ones who wave their Confederate flags, or openly display swastikas, Iron crosses or any of their other hate symbols.
Those are the folks who not only support Trump, the leader of the Republican party, but are the ones who stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
It’s called guilt by association. That’s why many non-Republicans believe all Republicans are racists. As the saying goes, “Lie with dogs, you get fleas.”
Another good one is “Silence is violence.” In this case, not only in how people are treated, but in how people perceive you and the party you support.
So if you don’t like what’s happening, “See something say something.”
Otherwise, be prepared to suffer the consequences.
