Since I’m really bad about posting things as they happen, I’m combining two in one. In this case, it has something to do with Glee and the release of the new digital horror magazine, Horror Curated, and my connections with both.
Glee
Were you a Gleek? I’m not sure I could qualify myself as that, but I did enjoy the musical series Glee when it was on. And now I may have a link to it that I wasn’t expecting.
Recently on Haunt Jaunts, I shared information about The Price of Glee, a new three-part docuseries premiering on ID on Monday, January 16. But I also shared how right before I learned of it, someone involved in a Glee documentary reached out to me about a video I’d posted on YouTube. It was of Cory Monteith’s memorial and they wanted my permission to use it in a documentary they were working on.
Is it for The Price of Glee? I don’t know. I guess I’ll find out when it premieres. 2023 will mark 10 years since Cory Monteith died so, as I mentioned in the HJ post, there could be more Glee lookbacks coming.
Anyway, how did I even have footage posted on YouTube of Cory Monteith’s memorial?
We were on an Alaskan cruise when he died. I remember learning about his death and hearing it happened in a Fairmont hotel in Vancouver. There are actually a few Fairmont hotels in Vancouver. I had booked us in the historic (and rumored-to-be haunted) Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, but there’s also the Fairmont Waterfront and the Fairmont Pacific Rim. Of course, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was at the same hotel as ours. It wasn’t until we got to Vancouver that I found out he’d been staying in the Pacific Rim one.
Another thing I wondered while we were still on the ship was, “Will people leave flowers or whatnot like they do when celebrities die? Maybe I should go check it out?”
But that seemed sort of wrong. Still, when the opportunity presented itself, I found myself doing just that. We’d decided to take a Hop On Hop Off tour, which passed by the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel. That’s when we spotted the memorial for Cory Monteith out front.
Since I was right there, and I saw lots of other people with their cameras out, too, I figured, “Why not?”
The video is horribly shaky. I was still learning the camera I had at that time. But the person in charge of getting my permission to use the footage in the doc assured me they found a smidge that was usable. Did they? I’ll be curious to see if it turns up anywhere.
Horror Curated: Haunted Holidays
This year, the delightfully devious minds at HorrorAddicts.net launched a new digital magazine, Horror Curated. The first edition, “Haunted Holidays,” dropped on November 13.
It’s a visual feast for the eyes and easily scrollable. The contents are called “Innards” and the contributors are called “Curators.”
In addition to interviews with musicians Midnight Syndicate, artist Lynn Hansen, creator Nikolette Jones, and writer Cliff Biggers, there are book and movie reviews, fiction and poetry. There are even a couple of articles. Mark Orr curated one, “Historian of Horror: Have a Haunted, Jolly Christmas.” My byline accompanies the other, “Haunted Locations: 5 Spooky Locations with Christmas Names.” It was based on an episode of the Haunted Christmas season of the Haunt Jaunts podcast.
Anyway, Horror Curated: Haunted Holidays is available on Etsy for $3.13 at this link: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1330791770/horror-curated-haunted-holidays.
